We forged the 7 and 1/2 inch blade of the Alaskan Bowie from a repurposed, truck leaf spring. The spring we used is a high carbon steel that contains chromium, which contributes to both wear resistance and toughness in the blade. After forging the blade to shape and giving it a superior heat treatment, we moved on to a flat ground, hand sanded and etched finish. Next, we fitted the blade with a stout, brass guard and completed the piece with a handle of Alaskan moose antler and a black micarta spacer. The Alaskan Bowie comes complete one of our premium, leather sheaths, making this a blade fit for a mountain man.
